ECTAC Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center
DEFINITION - Web-based training (sometimes called e-learning) is anywhere, any-time instruction delivered over the Internet to browser-equipped learners - you'll need a current version of Firefox, Opera, Chrome, or Internet Explorer . There are two primary models of Web-based instruction you'll see here: synchronous (instructor-facilitated, real time) and asynchronous (self-directed, self-paced - recorded sessions).

Instruction can be delivered by a combination of static methods (learning portals, hyperlinked pages, screen cam tutorials, streaming audio/video, and live Web broadcasts) and interactive methods (threaded discussions - see Early Childhood Discussion).

If you have good examples or relevant web-based training we can link to, or screen cam or video clips you've produced that you want to upload please let us know. Send links by email to training@ectac.net. Upload files through the Share Resources upload page.
Videos share your video clips with us through the Share Resources upload page. Select the Playlist button to move between clips.
Web-Based Training
In the "Using Visuals to Support Instruction" clip you'll see one of our students using Folder Visuals to attend better to the story by having an active way to participate without disrupting other students. Visual elements from the story are on the right using Velcro or Dual Lock. As the teacher gets to each character or element from the story, he moves it to the left. The same visuals can be used later in re-telling the story or in comprehension activities. We will make many of the Folder Visuals we use available in the Share Resources section of our website in both Boardmaker and PDF format.

You'll also see the teacher providing very specific direction with modeling and use of visual supports in a follow up activity.

If you use Boardmaker, the second short video clip
"Adding graphics to Boardmaker" walks you through the process of adding custom graphics to your Symbol Library in Boardmaker. Adding custom graphics allows you to create visual supports that are identical to what is presented instructionally, or gives you access to very concrete or specific graphics. Reading center, for example, can be a photograph of your classroom reading center.
Help us build this video clip library by sharing your own clips related to supporting children with disabilities in regular settings through our Share Resources upload page.

Recorded Sessions many online trainings are saved so you can access them at any time from any location with a browser and internet connection. The only loss is the inability to directly interact with the instructor, but otherwise are great examples of anytime, anywhere instruction.
DynaVox Mayer-Johnson has some great recorded sessions if you're a Boardmaker user. Registration is required, but free. Access their recorded sessions by clicking here or on the icon to the left.
Live Sessions as we become aware of links to sites providing live online training that is relevant we'll link from here.
DynaVox Mayer-Johnson provides great live online training (the source of their recorded sessions) if you're a Boardmaker user. Registration is required, but free. Access their live training schedule by clicking here or on the icon to the left.
